Testimonials:

“We had no idea how to help our daughter heal from the abuse. You gave us direction, helped our daughter believe in herself again, and restored a sense of hope in all of us. We are truly grateful.” — parents of a 12-year-old abuse victim
“The children were overwhelmed by the divorce. You helped them learn to cope with their feelings and to find the courage to express themselves. Thank you for showing me how to support them through it all and for helping us during a difficult time. You’ll never know the difference it’s made.” — mother of a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old client

Andrea Schultz has specialized in counseling services for   children,   adolescents   and   families   for   more than 25 years. She received her Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas. Andrea is a Licensed Professional Counselor, has completed advanced training as a Registered Play Therapist and holds advanced licensure as a board-approved clinical supervisor.

Andrea’s experience includes 16 years at the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, a recognized leader in the field of abuse and trauma, where she served as a therapist and clinical supervisor. Andrea has worked extensively with children, adolescents and families. She also works with adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, adjustment and life-transition issues. With an approach that is both supportive and solution-focused, Andrea helps clients develop the skills they need to resolve difficulties, achieve goals and make positive changes for the future.

Andrea has unique experience in the creative and innovative use of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). Research shows that contact with a therapy animal can help reduce anxiety and often allows a client to benefit from therapy more quickly. The use of AAT is especially helpful with children and adolescents who may be anxious about or resistant to treatment. Therapy animals help create an atmosphere of acceptance and safety. Young clients are better able to relax, build trust with the therapist and begin the process of positive change.

Andrea enjoys time with family and friends, reading and volunteering her time to efforts that promote the use of Animal Assisted Therapy.
