About Andrea Schultz, M.Ed., LPC-S, RPT-S
Andrea Schultz has specialized in counseling services for children, adolescents, and families for more than 25 years. She received her Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas. Andrea is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist. She is also a Certified AutPlay® Therapist, having completed specialized training in adapting the principles of play therapy to working with autistic children. Andrea holds an advanced licensure as a board-approved clinical supervisor for counseling associates. Andrea’s experience includes 16 years at the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, a nationally recognized leader in the field of abuse and trauma, where she served as a therapist and clinical supervisor. She has worked extensively with children, adolescents, and families in the areas of abuse, trauma, grief and loss, divorce, blended-family issues, and parent-child relationship issues. She is experienced in the treatment of childhood anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, school difficulties, and a variety of behavioral issues.
Andrea has unique experience in the innovative use of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). Research shows that contact with a therapy animal can help reduce anxiety and it often allows a client to benefit from therapy more quickly. The use of AAT is especially helpful with children and adolescents who may be anxious about or resistant to therapy. While Andrea has specialized in work with children, adolescents, and families – she is also experienced in the treatment of adults with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, adjustment, and life-transition issues.
With an approach that is both supportive and solution-focused, Andrea helps clients heal and develop the skills they need to resolve challenges, achieve goals, and make positive changes for the future. For those families that approach their lives and resolve their challenges from a faith-based perspective, Andrea’s own Christian faith allows her to understand and work with them in a way that honors their values and belief system.
Andrea enjoys time with family and friends, reading, and volunteering her time to efforts that promote the use of Animal Assisted Therapy. Learn more at www.andreaschultzcounseling.com. (License No. 12403)
